Transportation

School bus drivers transport students safely to and from school and on special trips.

Duties include transporting students; supervising bus loading and unloading; enforcing rules, regulations, and laws to maintain safety on the road; and ensuring the vehicle is in safe operating condition.

Education & Licenses

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required

  • Ability to perform required duties
  • Ability to pass a physical exam, as required by the state of Washington
  • Good driving record (provide a clean driving abstract for the last 5 years)
  • Criminal justice fingerprint clearance
  • Drug testing clearance

Abilities

  • Ability to maintain effective student behavior management while safely operating the bus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sufficient strength and agility to move about in a school bus as required to provide assistance to students

Pay

  • Bus drivers: $16.48 – $21.18/hr
  • Journeyman Bus-Diesel Mechanic: $21.49 – $26.27/hour
  • Hours per day are variable, depending on routes and extra trips assigned
  • Average days per year: 180
